Farrah Merali

BIO
Farrah Merali is a Toronto-based multi-platform journalist with CBC News. She has a special interest in investigative journalism, politics and social justice issues. For back-to-back years, her work has been recognized nationally. In 2018, she was part of a team at CBC Vancouver that won a National RTDNA for the project The Fentanyl Fix . In 2019, she and her team took home a National RTDNA for CBC Toronto's continuing coverage of the Toronto Van Attack. Her recent work has earned her a nomination for Best Local Reporter at the 2020 Canadian Screen Awards and a nomination for best Broadcast Under Five Minutes at the 2023 Canadian Association of Journalists (CAJ) Awards.
Farrah has a background in political science and has covered six major elections in recent years: the 2016 U.S. Presidential election from Seattle, the 2017 B.C. provincial election from the road on the campaign buses, the 2018 Ontario provincial election from the GTA, the 2019 and 2021 Federal Election from Toronto and the 2022 Ontario provincial election also from Toronto.
She has filed stories for CBC News from Vancouver, Washington D.C. and London and as a freelancer from Montreal, Ramallah and Jerusalem.
Farrah has a Bachelor of Arts from McGill University in English Literature and International Relations. She completed her Masters in Journalism, with a focus on Broadcast journalism, at Ryerson University.
